This is going to be brief but to the point.
The behavior of the Republicans and Conservatives since Obama's election has ensured that I will remain a liberal for a long, long time. Join me below the fold for my reasons.
First, The republican / conservative disrespect for science. This is one of the main reasons I became steadily more liberal during the Bush admin, and the SwiftHack controversy is just adding to that now. Global warming, stem cells, cutting funding for basic research, etc, are all areas where I'm squarely a liberal. I'm not afraid of progress and i'm far from being afraid of science.
Second, the attitude of many conservatives towards gay people is disgusting. Trying to deny them basic rights over some religious factors or "eww" factors is just terrible.
Third, their attitude towards health care reform. Obama's trying to help more people, and how do they repay him? By throwing "socialist", "fascist", etc, around, and by raising fears of the government taking over all care. I've even seen conservatives say they're thankful they had their mastectomies now because such essential procedures wouldn't happen under "Obamacare".
Fourth, the attitude that many conservatives have that anything can be solved via bombing and the utter disrespect for, you know, actually talking things over and trying diplomacy is also driving me further to the left.
Until the Republican party makes an about-face on all of these things, I'll keep becoming more liberal. Considering I see the tea-partiers and the like running the ship now, I won't hold my breath waiting.
